Golf, Matterhorn, Zermatt, Valais
We’re back from a week vacation just within Switzerland. We have been to Obergesteln last Saturday, on July 15, 2006 but then came back home on Sunday. Eric was free for one week but he wanted to do something first before leaving. On Monday, Eric got rid of our old sofa, empty wine boxes, and some trashes. Then Tuesday, we left for Valais but decided to drop by Pont-La-Ville in Fribourg and played golf at the Golf de la Gruyère.

We stayed overnight at the Hotel Restaurant Golf de la Gruyère so Eric didn’t have to drive the next day just to go the golf course. It was actually a good decision because we got a room with the nice view of the Lake Gruyère.

The golf course is an 18 hole course and I really like it. I just love the view that could be seen from almost all the holes. Even if some of the holes are narrow, they didn’t matter to me, I enjoyed playing the course.
After we finished playing golf, we left Golf de la Gruyère to proceed to Zermatt but Eric didn’t want to use the highways so we used the main roads, via Vevey and Montreux along the Lake Geneva. We stopped at Villeneuve and had some lunch.

After our lunch, off we went to Zermatt but as we love playing golf, we decided to take a look at some of the golf courses like Golf Club Montreux and Golf Club Villars in Villars-sur-Ollon.

We didn’t play at Golf Club Villars, we just enjoyed looking at the fantastic panorama of the golf course. Golf Club Villars is an 18 hole course and just by looking at it, it is surely a challenging course.
Then, we proceed going to Zermatt but decided to stay at Monte Rosa Hotel and Restaurant in Täsch because it’s quite near the Golf Club Matterhorn Zermatt which is actually located almost in between Randa and Täsch.

We played golf the next day at the Golf Club Matterhorn Zermatt. When I saw the 9 hole course, I thought it was flat but when I was already playing, I realized that it’s actually a nice course to play.
The next day, on July 21, 2003, we went to Zermatt, then to Gornergrat with the Gornergrat cogwheel railway just to see the Matterhorn. Gornergrat is the best area to see the Matterhorn. Gornergrat is even called the center of the 29 four-thousand-meter-high mountains including Matterhorn and Dufour Peak (Dufourspitze) of Monte Rosa. Matterhorn (4478m) is the most popular mountain in Switzerland. Monte Rosa’s Dufour Peak (4634m) is the highest peak in Switzerland.

It was such a great pleasure seeing the Matterhorn and the other mountains, the breathtaking panoramic views surrounding Gornergrat. It was exhilarating and I would love to go back there.

We left Zermatt past 4pm and proceed to Obergesteln. We stayed 3 days and 2 nights in Obergesteln and played golf on Saturday and Sunday at Golf Source du Rhône. We arrived home in Weggis on Sunday, on July 23, 2006.

Wow! Awesome pictures Kataw…Zermatt, one of my favorite place in Switzerland. I still remember when we spent our Christmas there in 1999. The hotel where we stayed had a good view of the Matterhorn.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos with us.

Hi Nang Helen, it’s really nice up there. I hope to be able to go back there. I’d like to take some photos of the Matterhorn reflecting on the lake. We have not been in that area so I really would like to go back there, hope so.
