Petron Solar I Guimaras Oil Spill
The vessel M/T Solar I which was hired by Petron Corporation sank southwest of Guimaras Strait on August 11, 2006. The sunken oil tanker was carrying millions of liters of oil. As I am always checking SwissPinoy.com, I saw that HCR Pinoys updated its blog, HCR Pinoys ask Staff Council to help in Oil Spill. There I saw a link to a video at YouTube. I checked it out and found more interesting videos about the Petron Solar I Guimaras Oil Spill.
I have been somehow monitoring the Petron Solar I Guimaras Oil Spill. When it happened, I even immediately informed some people from my hometown Pandan and also some people from my home province Antique through the yahoo groups. I sent some information to let them know, to make them aware and to be vigilant if ever Antique will be affected. Antique is quite near Guimaras as it is also a province in Panay island just like Guimaras, Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz.
I keep on writing Petron Solar I Guimaras Oil Spill so people will remember which company hired the vessel Solar I responsible for the oil spill in Guimaras. We should never forget this tragedy. This tragedy should teach us a lesson. I just hope that people would learn from this incident.
I remember, way back in November 2002, when we opposed the Napocor plan to build a diesel power plant in one of the barangays in my hometown, in barangay Patria in Pandan, Antique, Philippines. One of the reasons that we pointed out was the possible oil spill and its bad effects. Some people neglected tha fact that it could happen. Yes, it happened indeed, not in Pandan, but near our area. It happened again after the Oil Spill in Semirara in December 2005, and in just within 9 months.
It is so saddening considering that a lot of people have been severely affected, and especially when I read this, Marine rehab, recovery may take 10-25 yrs, say UP experts, at the Inquirer.

Kawawa talaga ang mga naapektuhan, most of them kasi sa area namin, pangingisda ang hanapbuhay nila kung di naman pagsasaka. If the marine rehabilitation will take 10-25 years, ang hirap noon. Kahit na nga hindi nila hanapbuhay ang pangingisda, kung wala naman silang pinagkakakitaan, pangingisda rin naman ang alam nila para makakain.

Hello cheH… actually, the house itself is not really my dream house, gawa na kasi yong building noong makita namin, pati ang mga partitions sa loob, so di ko magawa yong gusto ko talaga but because of the view, we bought the house. Ewan ko nga ba kung saan na sila kukuha ng ikakabuhay nila ngayon. Right now, some of the residents of Guimaras who were affected are depending on whatever the government or organization are giving them. Problema talaga, kung ang alam lang nila ay pangingisda lamang. Sinabi mo pa, kawawa talaga ang mga kabataan. Pati siempre yong iba na dependent din sa tourism, naapektuhan talaga. Sa mismong white sand beaches napunta yong mga oil, although not all over Guimaras. But these resorts are also employing a lot of people, alam mo naman. Grabe talaga ang damage.
