“Anak” Song on Swiss Radio

Tuesday, October 17, 2006 @ 7:01 pm by Sofie Hofmann

I’m always amused every time I see a Filipino movie being shown on television in German and Swiss channels. I’m also amused every time I hear a Filipino song being played on a Swiss radio station. On October 04, 2006, once again, I heard Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak” being played on the radio.

We were parking at the entrance of the house of Erich’s brother when we heard the song so we stayed inside the car for a while, and I recorded a portion of the song. I only have a digital camera that could only record for 15 seconds so that was the only thing that I can do. I recorded the music twice while taking a video of the movements on the road. I mixed the two music videos into one. You’ll definitely notice the cut between the two music videos. They’re amateur and experimental music videos, so please bear with it.

If you want to hear the full version of the song (sounds only, no video), click at YouTube, Anak-Freddie Aguilar (Tagalog Version) or Anak-Freddie Aguilar (English Version). If you feel like singing it, and you want the lyrics with chords, click at TristanCafe OPM Music & Lyrics, ANAK by Freddie Aguilar, this is good for you.

Regarding the movies, unlike other Filipinos abroad, I don’t buy or don’t have any Filpino VHS nor DVD films at home so I would always watch those movies shown on German and Swiss television channels even if I watched them already, even if it was past midnight as well. It was always funny watching them since they were normally translated in German language.

I just can’t remember all the titles of the movies, so I searched for them. Funny thing is, I can’t remember who played in one of the movies, I just remember that the film had something to do with Mt. Pinatubo and a certain actress called Michelle, but can’t remember the last name. I kept on searching and found it. One of the films shown at SF1, a Swiss channel, was Segurista with Michelle Aldana as the lead actress together with Albert Martinez and Ruby Moreno.

I also saw one movie with Edu Manzano on it, another one with Vic Diaz, and several other films. The next time I watch another Filipino film, or something to do with Philippines, or movies done in the Philippines, I’ll really try to remember the titles.

How come I can’t remember the titles of the movies? Well, sometimes the film was already quite old, or I just accidentally found it while zapping, or the title had been changed as they normally translate the titles too.

Hello cheH! Yang kantang “Anak” ni Freddie Aguilar na yan, laging pinapatugtog dito yan, ma Swiss TV or radio man, yong original version talaga. Wow talaga. Pero, ewan ko ba, di ako naiiyak manay. Naaaliw lang talaga ako pag naririnig ko sa Swiss radio station. Pag sa TV naman, nagigising ako kasi umaga nila pinapatugtog, wala pang regular programming, pero may news kang maririnig at the same time may teletext.

Anyway, have a nice week too! Hugs!!! :)

Hi thess! noong una nagulat din ako ng marinig ko yong kanta. Ngayon, natutuwa ako kasi nga pinapatugtog nila, di naman nila maintindihan kasi nga Filipino. Pero it’s really nice no, na na-a-appreciate nila yong song. Anyway, have a nice weekend!

aloha! alam mo famous din dito yang “anak” na yan at one of the best sellers dito nung mid 80’s pa. di ba nanalo na nga yan ng ilang awards for best song sa europe and asia.
too bad, they (filipino artists) can’t come up with something like that anymore these days - i mean, totally unforgetable melody and lyrics that would stay in the heart and mind for a long period of time that even those who hear it without an understanding of its meaning would be greatly affected by it. sige nga sofie, magsulat nga tayo ng kanta na mala ‘anak’ ang dating. hehehe…

Hello Atinna! Kumusta ka na? Oo nga, famous talaga yong song ni Freddie Aguilar na “Anak” kasi di ba nga it was translated pa in different languages here in Europe. :)
