Rigi, Queen of the Mountains
On November 13, 2006, when I saw that the sky was blue and the clouds were white, I asked my mother and niece if they wanted to go up to Mt. Rigi. They said yes right away because the weather was quite nice. Little did we know that the weather could change so abruptly once up in Mt. Rigi.

We went first to the cable car station in Weggis. We found out that it was not operating because of maintenance, so we went to Vitznau, the neighboring village of Weggis. As the schedule of the cable car in Weggis was supposed to be earlier than the cogwheel railway in Vitznau, we were quite early in Vitznau for the next trip to Mt. Rigi.

As the cogwheel railway went up to Mt. Rigi, we still saw that the sky was blue. It was even sunny when we arrived in Rigi Kulm. We just went inside the toilet for a while, and when we went out just after 5 to 10 minutes, it was no longer sunny, the sun suddenly hid from the clouds. It became very cold and quite windy too. It was probably below freezing point with the wind.

Mt. Rigi, which is 1,800 meters above sea level, is called the Queen of the Mountains in Switzerland.
Hi Sofie,
It looks very cold! I’ll stay down here. However, here it is not much warmer, because the cold wind from the mountans goes down and follows the river to our city, creating lots of cold fog. I work on a small hill nearby where it is usually sunny and warmer than down by the river where we live.
Hi Dani!
O yes, it was really very cold up there because it was so windy. My hands were shaking when I was taking their pictures. It was fun though, despite the cold. What an experience both for my mother and my niece.
