Pilatus, The Dragon Mountain

Sunday, November 19, 2006 @ 10:20 pm by Sofie Hofmann

Today, November 19, 2006, at already past 12:00 nn, we went up to Mount Pilatus via Kriens with the aerial panoramic gondola and cable car. We can also go up to Mount Pilatus via Alpnachstad with the steepest cogwheel railway in the world but we opted for the cable car.

It was my niece’s first cable car ride so we went up to Mount Pilatus via Kriens. We were able to ride both the aerial panoramic gondola and cable car. We already were able to ride a type of cogwheel train in Vitznau going up to Mount Rigi so it was not important for us to go up to Mount Pilatus with the cogwheel railway. It was a great ride and it was fantastic up there too.

Mount Pilatus is 2,132 meters above sea level and higher than Mount Rigi, which could be seen from Mount Pilatus. It was cold up in Mount Pilatus but it was colder in Mount Rigi when we went up there.

Mount Pilatus is called the Dragon Mountain in Switzerland. Perhaps, this article about the “Dragon Legends” could explain why it’s called the Mountain of the Dragons.
