First Day, Edinburgh City, Scotland

You might ask now, how many hours did we travel from Weggis to Edinburgh? I could not possibly remember what time we left Weggis but I know it was early in the morning, between 6am and 7am. I also know that it was about 8 to 9 hours from Weggis, Switzerland to Calais, France where we boarded the boat going to Dover, England.

We arrived in Calais just after 4:00pm and we were able to catch the ferry which was about to leave then, at around 4:20pm. We arrived in Dover just before 4:20pm as well. You may ask why we arrived in Dover at almost the same time we left Calais? Well, it was UK time and UK is one hour behind France. We continued our trip, and stopped in Toddington just after 10:00pm for an overnight sleep. Travel time would then be like 5 to 6 hours from Dover to Toddington, England.

The next day at around 7:25am, we continued our trip, and we arrived in Edinburgh a few minutes before 4:00pm. Travel time would again be like 8 to 9 hours from Toddington, England to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Now, you could more or less estimate the travel time from Weggis, Switzerland to Edinburgh, Scotland.

As I was saying in my last entry, it was a little bit dark when we arrived in Edinburgh, but after just a few minutes, the sun was shining again.

On the way to Edinburgh City

As we had not reserved for any hotel accommodation, we went straight to the city, parked the car, and looked for the Tourist Information Center, actually Edinburgh Information Centre. The person at the counter was very accommodating. We knew that hotels in the city were quite very expensive aside from having very limited parking spaces, so we told him that we were just looking for a guest house with a parking space for just a night since we were going to St. Andrews the next day.

But seeing how nice the city was, we opted to stay for two nights. He found us a guest house and even called up the lady just to make sure that we have the room. He told the lady that we will be on our way there. Then we saw the person’s name tag. His name was Scott. We even joked if the Scott monument was named after him. Then we asked him again about golf in Scotland, asked him if there was a new Golf in Scotland magazine where Visit Scotland was a sponsor. We told him that when we were in Ireland during the Smurfit Golf Tournament at the K Club, we visited their booth and people were also very accommodating that we considered going to Scotland this year. He gave us more information about golf. Then we left and went straight to the guest house which was just about 5 minutes drive from the city. The guest house was in the city too but not city proper as Edinburgh is quite a big city.

On our way to the guest house, having booked the room without even seeing it yet, we were hoping that the area would be nice. Well, when we saw the area, we thought it was nice and quiet. When we arrived at the guest house, the owners were also nice. And tell you, they have a computer with internet connection at the reception area and you can surf the net for free, as in no additional cost.

We just checked in at the guest house, unloaded our suitcases, then left. But we did not bring the car. Since the guest house is just a few meters away from the Bus station, we took the bus going to the city proper. We roamed a little bit around Edinburgh city.

Edinburgh has the so-called Old Town and the New Town. I will not be telling you about the other parts, the North East, North West, South, South West and West. The pictures of the North Bridge above and the pictures below are parts of the Old Town.

Free Sex in the shower!?

The ad above along the Princes Street on the part of the New City actually caught my attention. I was really laughing at it. It was so out of the place as that part of the city along the Princes Street was not at all for such. But yes, we saw some bums along the street.

If you noticed, I have been talking about the Princes Street. Well, the Princes Street is the street which is dividing the Old Town and the New Town in Edinburgh City.

The Edinburgh Castle is located at the Old Town of Edinburgh city. But the picture above was actually taken from the Princes Street but part of the New Town.

The pictures below except for the last three pictures were taken at the New Town in Edinburgh City.

The main course, Lamb Shank Stew with mashed potato!

I was so excited to be eating Lamb Shank as I really missed that in Ireland. It was so tender and really good that I promised that once I see Lamb Shank Stew on the menu in Scotland, I will definitely order that one.

After dinner, as it was already almost 11pm, we went back to the guest house as we did not want to miss the last trip of the bus, which was really passing along the street where the guest house that we were staying was located.

I especially asked Hub to take my picture there just because of the staircase. :)

Well, that was our first day in Edinburgh City. I hope you enjoyed your virtual tour with us around the city. See you next time!

After all the sightseeing, walking on the magnificent street and weird ads, I must say, the food and REDS just saved the day, innit?

I’d go for the bread with melted cheese. The place looks gorgeous day in and night out.

  8. Hello K!

There’s not enough time to explore the city, quite a lot to see and do there. It’s a nice city. I would love to go back there.

Don’t you like lamb? :) I’m not much of a lamb eater but this Lamb Shank Stew, I love it. :)

yung bahay parang kakatakot, hahaha. alam mo yung toast bread, ganyan ginagawa ko sa pandesal!

  10. Hello kengkay!

Basta ako nagagandahan ako sa Edinburgh, so I’m recommending it. :)
