Second Day, Edinburgh, Scotland
On our second day in Edinburgh, July 09, 2008, we got up early, had some breakfast, and then went to the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestongrange House in Prestonpans. We played golf at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club. That was our first 18 holes in Scotland after a long trip from Switzerland via France and England.

The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is the fifth oldest club in the world originating from the nine hole Musselburgh Levenhall Links where the Musselburgh Racecourse is now located. The 9 hole Musselburgh Levenhall Links is still existing and has been a venue of horse racing since 1816. People still play golf at the golf course, and the horse racecourse surrounds the golf course.

When we finished playing golf, we went to the bar and restaurant, and had our late light lunch. A man came to us, and told us that he saw me taking photos while playing golf. He was such a nice man. He talked to us, and then invited me as he would like to show me a sort of painting collage of the 5 Open Champions from the club among them were Willie Park, Sr. and his son Willie Park, Jr., whom I didn’t know at all. He also showed me the picture of Jane Connachan. I also knew nothing about Jane Connachan. Only to realize later that Willie Park, Sr. was the first Open Champion, and Jane Connachan was a child golf prodigy, who at the age of 12 won the Scottish (Girls) International.
Well, I love playing golf but I don’t know all the famous people in golf aside from Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Annika Sorenstam among others.
After a game of golf, we again went to Edinburgh City and just walked around the area especially at the Royal Mile.
The Edinburgh Castle is located at the end of the historic Royal Mile on the Castlehill area. The castle is an assemblage of several buildings from 12th to the 20th century. It was used as a fortress, a royal palace, a military garrison as well as a state prison.
This is another view of the Princes Street which divides the Old Town and the New Town of Edinburgh City. The medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town of Edinburgh combined with its modern architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Royal Mile is a stretch of four streets, Castlehill, Lawnmarket, High Street and Canongate linking the Edinburgh Castle to the The Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Hub, an old church in the Castehill formerly the Tolbooth Kirk (church), is the headquarters of the Edinburgh International Festival.
The Esplanade is the venue of the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Scotland’s annual outdoor military spectacular show of music, theatre and dance.
The tall building which looks like a church is The Hub, the headquarters of the Edinburgh International Festival, three weeks of world class opera, dance, theatre, music and visual art.
St. Giles’ Cathedral also known as the High Kirk (church) of Edinburgh is renowned for its stained glass, Rieger organ and the Thistle Chapel. It was the church of John Knox during the Reformation.
There are lots to see in Edinburgh City but since we only stayed there for 2 nights, it was not enough to visit all the other historic houses, buildings, places, castles, palaces, churches, museums, galleries, its modern architecture and its natural attractions. I would love to go back to Edinburgh.
If you plan to go to Edinburgh, I really suggest that you stay longer than we did. Forget about shopping first as it will just distract you. Explore the Royal Mile but be prepared for a long walk as there are too many things to do and see on that street.
Well, that’s all about Edinburgh, I hope you again enjoyed your second day virtual tour with us. Join us next time in St. Andrews, Kingdom of Fife!

Hello K!
Quite a lot of tourists, one of the reasons as I see it because Edinburgh was able to preserve a lot so people really visit the place. I already mentioned that Edinburgh is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its Old Town and New Town. I think I didn’t have enough that’s why I would love to go back there.
By the way, we just ate smoked salmon. Love it.
Hello cheh!
Alam mo bang salmon ang almost laging starter namin. Di naman nakakasawa kaya oks na oks. Sarap talaga!
Hello nanaybelen!
Sayang nga lang at di kami nakapasok sa loob mismo ng Edinburgh Castle kasi may private affair. Naghintay kami for a while baka pumayag yong guard, pero di talaga puwede. Asa pa.
Pero di bale, there’s always a next time, ika nga.

Hello Mahalia,
There’s a golf course na sarado for golf pag Sunday, pero open sya sa ibang mga tao for a walk lang. Talagang ginagawa nilang playground. Hindi pa bawal ang mg aso. Bibihira kasi sa golf course na sarado pag Sunday, e most golfers naglalaro pag Sunday dahil walang pasok.
