On shame and sending messages from God

Friday, March 13, 2009 @ 1:09 pm by Sofie Hofmann

Most of my blogger friends and readers may have observed that I normally don’t write about my faith and religion. I love God so dearly and I am not at all ashamed of my faith and religion no matter what other people say. My relationship with God is my private matter and it will remain that way until the end of time.

Why am writing about this? It has something to do with all the messages we have received about the so-called messages from God. It has nothing to do with the people sending the messages but the people who originally sent the messages and according to them from God and being passed on from one person to another in different forms like via email or via social media.

I noticed something and usually at the end of the messages, and I just don’t agree with it.

This is not complete but normally it says or something like this:

Please do not be ashamed to follow the instruction. “If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father!” If you are not ashamed, send this message, only if you believe.

What was the person thinking when writing this, “I will be ashamed of you before my Father!”?

May I remind everyone that God is not judgmental and never will be. He will never judge us. He will never be ashamed of us before our Father no matter what we do. Even if we will be ashamed of our faith in God, he will never, never be ashamed of us, not to anyone and especially not to our Father.

Sometimes I send the messages back to the one who sent me and sometimes I just ignore it but it doesn’t mean that I am ashamed of God, of my faith and religion. What I do is, I just remove the unnecessary phrases and send the core of the messages. I have written about three things I will never let go and faith in God is one of them. But I was always shocked reading those messages with a phrase or sentence like the one I mentioned. It is just so unreal.

The messages are definitely good but I normally do not send this kind of messages because it is not just true that God will be ashamed of us before our Father. He will always love us no matter what we do in this world. He will never stop loving us even if we make mistakes a million times. He will always forgive us.

In my case, there were a lot of times that I made mistakes and will still make mistakes and may be my faith was tested already and I was not probably able to explain it properly. I am not an all-knowing person about religion but I know that I love God and I have nothing to prove to anyone about anything. I am not a martyr but God will still and will always love me for what I am, that I know.

I am not even going to argue with anyone about my faith, about my religion, not to to those who also have faith, not to those who are agnostics, and not to those who are atheists. My relationship with God is my private matter alone. It is not anyone’s concern.

So to anyone who are sending these messages, consider what you are trying to say. Do you really think God will be ashamed of us before our Father because I believe that it is not just true. To those who are writing this kind of things, consider first what you are writing before you send one.

Peace to everyone! Peace on earth! Have a great weekend to all of you!

hay, forwarded messages na panay pananakot lang

sabi nga, do not use the name of God in vain. kapag ganyan nakukuha ko, delete ko agad kasi alam ko kung kanino ako mas naniniwala at mabait ang kilala kong Diyos

    happy weekend din!

    • Hello Kengkay!

I appreciate receiving messages because they remind me too. But I prefer that they remove the threatening phrases after the core message. They’re not necessary. I read the messages. I also keep them. If I send it back, I take those so-called threatening phrases. God will never never approve this kind of threat. It is not just proper if we write it in the name of God pa. It is definitely good to declare our faith and belief in God, but to do it in such a manner na may pananakot, e di na proper yan.

The gifts and blessings that we have received are because of our effort and not because of any chain letter. It is our trust to ourselves that make things happen and not because of forwarding chain letters. Hay buhay… :)

  2. I just would like to add. A message like the one below would be fine.

Please pause for a few seconds and say the Lord’s Prayer for the person who sent you this message.

    Our Father in heaven
    Holy be your name
    Your kingdom come
    Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven

    Give us this day
    Our daily bread
As we forgive those who sin against us
Do not bring us into temptation
    but deliver us from evil

    Amen.

You can also send this prayer to your friends, the more friends you send this to, the more people will pray for you.

That’s it. No threat. Nothing. Just a simple request for prayers from your friends. You can change the Lord’s Prayer if you have created your own prayer. Wouldn’t it be nice doing that way.

Hi Sofie, you don’t me but I couldn’t help but comment on your blog. I stumbled on your previous posts and I kept checking to see if you have new posts. Anyway, I keep my religious beliefs to myself. I don’t preach to anyone because I believe that it’s a personal choice. I believe, trust, fear in Him. When I received e-mail messages like that I don’t forward it. It stops in me. Sorry guys. But that’s me and that’s how I handle it. By the way, I’m a Boholana and living in Jacksonville, FL. Keep blogging!

    • Hello haidee,

It’s a matter of choice. We just have to know which one is real. Some spammers are using the name of God in vain just to collect email addresses. Every time a person forwards an email without deleting the other email addresses listed or sending it with CC (carbon carbon recipients) and not BCC (blind carpon copy recipients), we’re actually giving the spammers a good reason to continue with what they are doing when in fact our intention was different which was supposed to be to share the message of God.

Anyway, thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. Keep on reading my blog. :)

I am not religious but I am always spiritual. For me, the best thing you can offer to God is to be a good person, that’s it and God knows that you love Him.

  5. jeremiah says:

    • Hello Jeremiah,

  6. Donz says:

tood gi ra tana. ako gani wara gid takon ga sapak kang mga chain letters nga ria. well, i have never believed in chain letters saying this and that, specially the ones that say you’ll have a bad luck if you are not going to forward the message… huh! at the onset it says that God is this and that, that this saint and that is this and that… and at the end it will say…forward this and that or else you will have a bad day! hahaha. nonsense..

for years living in the seminary, no one taught us that God is vengeful… i simply delete these chain letters because it is simply a burden to others to whom i will send the message. i cannot bear to think that the persons i am going to send the mail to will be thinking about bad lucks if they will not forward the same.

i simply say my prayers whenever i read chain letter of this nature…

    God bless!

    • Hello Donz,

      Aba, nabuhi ka a. :)

Exactly my other point with chain letters stating that if we don’t forward them, something bad will happen to us, which I really find not good at all. It’s not nice to wish people bad luck or that something bad may happen to others. I just don’t get it why some people do this kind of things to some of their friends. Good things happen because we worked for it and not because of the chain letters. The chain letters do not dictate our lives. We are the ones shaping our future.

I just pray that they will soon realize that they are just being used by spammers.

Duro gid ran-i nga salamat. God bless you too!

  7. K says:

Chain mails. I despised them. I have some, with Jesus Christ photo attachment pa with the words:

“God has seen you struggling (with something), and he says it’s over.

A blessing is coming your way. If you believe in God send to ten people, please don’t ignore, you are being tested.”

Gusto mo forward ko rin sayo? Hahaha.

  8. Emmalyn says:

You hit the nail right on the head! Spare me my two-cents worth, though. Gakatol gid abi dila ko magkumintar.

The challenge is one of discernment (a no brainer for chain letters). The difficulty is knowing the difference between messages from God and data from other sources. I suppose this also entails an enlightened knowledge and understanding of the true nature of God. The supreme irony however, is that most often, we have placed so much importance on the Word of God and so little on the experience.

    Di pa ako tapus…

    “God is never judgemental”

Tumpak gid! It makes sense kayman, God exists in eternity so He has all the time in the universe to polish our souls to perfection. BUT (take note: all caps yan, ha) there’s no way our actions could escape it’s corresponding karma. It’s a necessary part of the polishing process.

It’s just sad how some people do certain things for God out of fear rather than out of LOVE.

    • Hello Emmalyn!

Wow, my friend responded. Too formal my dear. :)

You are very welcome to write your comments my dear! It is my honor to have you here. :)

What else can I say. You said it all. I have nothing more to add. I’m “writeless” now. :D

Anyway, have a great week ma friend!

  9. gudang says:

  10. Thess says:

    Hi Sofie!

Crazy isn’t it, that this type of forwarded emails are most based on ‘making you feel scared’. I do receive them but I automatically delete them because it’s pointless to read them anyway.

Incidentally I had a very interesting chat with an old (now ex) friend just last week who sent me links – one was about microchip that according to her Satan is spreading now!- I almost went berserk because here was someone who claims to be a Christian and yet believing in such rubbish! The video is on youtube (I might blog about it) because it was pretty disturbing, both those believing it and the manner which it was done, absolutely nothing Godly about it!

    • Hello Thess,

I do read them. The message itself is not bad. But I don’t forward them. I’m not afraid of the threats because the God I know is a loving God.

Regarding your friend, we’ll just have to pray for your friend then. Minsan mga ganyang tao, kailangang ipinagdadasal rin yan sila to become openminded. :)
