Tung Chung, Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Tung Chung was one of the places where we frequented in Hong Kong before we went to the Philippines during our vacation in May 2009. We went back to Hong Kong on May 28, 2009, and again frequented Tung Chung for shopping and eating.
Citygate was the shopping center where we always ate and shopped in Tung Chung. Shopping in Tung Chung Citygate was a little bit cheaper than in Central Hong Kong. Citygate was even renamed Citygate Outlets and said to be the only outlet mall in Hong Kong. Almost all the manufactured goods in Citygate Outlets were quite highly discounted.

Near Citygate is where the Tung Chung Skyrail Terminal or the Ngong Ping Cable Car Terminal is located. The Ngong Ping Cable Car formerly known as the Ngong Ping 360 Skyrail is the gondola lift going up to Ngong Ping Village where the Tian Tan Buddha Statue known as Big Buddha is located.
Tung Chung is a new town in Lantau Island which was formerly a rural and fishing village around Tung Chung Wan. Tung Chung was developed as part of the Hong Kong Airport Core Programme when the Chek Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport was built.
Tung Chung is directly connected to Chek Lap Kok Island where the Hong Kong International Airport is located. Chek Lap Kok Island and Tung Chung in Lantau Island is connected by North Lantau Highway on the north and Chek Lap Kok S Road on the south.
North Lantau Highway is an expressway which links the rest of Hong Kong extending from the Airport Road to Tung Chung New Town up Ta Shui Wan and Tsing Chau Wan to meet the Lantau Link where Tsing Ma Bridge is an integral part.
With all the developments in Tung Chung, despite its distance from the cities like Kowloon and Hong Kong Island, it was very accessible as the transportation in Tung Chung was very efficient.
Tung Chung was just about ten minutes traveling time from Chek Lap Kok Hong Kong International Airport and about thirty minutes from Kowloon and Hong Kong Island via MTR from MTR Tung Chung Station. Traveling time with the bus took a little bit longer though.

There were a lot of things to do in Tung Chung but we had limited time in Hong Kong as it was just a stopover. But we did not forget to visit Ngong Ping Village to see the Big Buddha, and when it comes to food, we definitely did not forget Yum Cha.
