Ireland Golf Vacation in Summer 2009
We left Weggis, Switzerland at around 7:38am on July 08, 2009. We arrived in Calais, France at around 4:50pm. Travel time from our place to Calais with all the stopovers along the way in France was about 9 hours and 12 minutes.
The next available boat with Sea France from Calais Port in Calais, France to Dover Port in Dover, England was at 6:30pm. We decided to take Sea France because we liked the food at the Le Brasserie restaurant the first time we took Sea France when we went to Ireland for a golf vacation in Summer 2007.

Sea France Ferry left Calais at around 6:30pm and arrived in Dover after 7:09pm while it was already 8:09pm in France. Travel time was more or less 1 and 1/2 hours. We finally got out of the boat at around 7:17pm. We continued our trip from Dover, England via Fishguard, Wales instead of Holyhead, Wales going to Ireland. We wanted to try and compare the route via Fishguard from the route via Holyhead.
It was around 10:45pm and was slowly getting dark when we decided to take a rest. We were in the area of Newport then, so we stayed overnight in one of the hotels in Newport, Wales.
The next day, we got up early and left the hotel at around 6:48am. We arrived at the Fishguard Port in Fishguard, Wales at around 9:05am. The next available boat with Stena Line was the Stena Express Fast Ferry Lynx scheduled to leave at 11:30am.
We did not go anywhere anymore, we just waited there. We checked-in at around 9:36am and boarded the boat at around 10:54am. Stena Line’s Stena Express Fast Ferry Lynx left at around 11:30am and arrived at the Rosslare Europort in Rosslare Harbour, Co. Wexford, Ireland at past 1:18pm. We got out of the boat at around 1:30pm already.

We stayed for two nights at St. Helen’s Bay Golf Resort in Kilrane, Rosslare Harbour, Co. Wexford, Ireland. The next day, we played golf at St. Helen’s Bay Golf Course.
After three days and two nights, we left St. Helen’s Bay Golf Resort and went to Dublin City. We stayed for four days and three nights in Dublin and played golf at Knightsbrook Golf Club in Trim, Co. Meath, Ireland.
On July 14, 2009, we left Dublin City and went to Mount Wolseley Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort in Tullow, Co. Carlow, Ireland. We stayed for three days and two nights at Mount Wolseley Hotel, Golf and Spa Resort and played golf at Mount Wolseley Golf Club, and Rathsallagh Golf Club in Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, Ireland.
On July 16, 2009, we left Mount Wolseley Hotel and went to Tramore, Co. Waterford, Ireland. We checked-in at the Cliff House Bed and Breakfast for an overnight stay and we played golf at the Tramore Golf Club at Newtown Hill in Tramore, Co. Waterford, Ireland.
The next day, on July 17, 2009, we left Tramore and went back to Rosslare Harbour via Passage East in Waterford Harbour, Co. Waterford, Ireland and Ballyhack, Co. Wexford, Ireland.
We checked-in at the Harbour View Hotel in Rosslare Harbour overlooking the Rosslare Europort and played golf at the Rosslare Golf CLub in Rosslare, Co. Wexford, Ireland.

The next day, on July 18, 2009, we left Rosslare Harbour, Ireland. We again rode Stena Line’s Stena Express Fast Ferry. We checked-in at around 7:00am, boarded the boat at around 7:37am. Stena Express Fast Ferry left Rosslare Europort at around 8:00am and arrived in Fishguard, Wales at past 10:00am. We got out of the boat at around 10:07am.
We took the same route when we came from Dover, England going to Fishguard, Wales on July 08, 2009. We again passed by Cardiff, Wales and Newport, Wales, then Bristol, Bath, Swindon, and the London Orbital in England going back to Dover.
We arrived in Dover at past 3:32pm. We bought our tickets, checked-in at around 4:05pm and boarded Sea France Ferry at around 4:18pm. I did not notice what time Sea France Ferry left Dover Port in Dover but it was in between 4:20pm and 4:30pm. We arrived at the Calais Port in Calais, France at around 7:05pm and got out of the boat at around 7:14pm.
It was 7:14pm in France then but only 6:14pm in England as there was an hour difference between England and France. Again, travel time was more or less about 1 and 1/2 hours.

We continued our trip and only stopped when needed like when we had to refuel the car or when we had to go to the toilet. Travel time from Calais, France to Switzerland then took only about 8 hours, actually 7 hours and 54 minutes. We arrived home in Switzerland at around 3:08am on July 19, 2009.
