On our second day in Edinburgh, July 09, 2008, we got up early, had some breakfast, and then went to the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Prestongrange House in Prestonpans. We played golf at the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club. That was our first 18 holes in Scotland after a long trip from Switzerland via France and England.

First Day, Edinburgh City, Scotland

You might ask now, how many hours did we travel from Weggis to Edinburgh? I could not possibly remember what time we left Weggis but I know it was early in the morning, between 6am and 7am. I also know that it was about 8 to 9 hours from Weggis, Switzerland to Calais, France where we boarded the boat going to Dover, England.

We arrived in Calais just after 4:00pm and we were able to catch the ferry which was about to leave then, at around 4:20pm. We arrived in Dover just before 4:20pm as well. You may ask why we arrived in Dover at almost the same time we left Calais? Well, it was UK time and UK is one hour behind France. We continued our trip, and stopped in Toddington just after 10:00pm for an overnight sleep. Travel time would then be like 5 to 6 hours from Dover to Toddington, England.

The next day at around 7:25am, we continued our trip, and we arrived in Edinburgh a few minutes before 4:00pm. Travel time would again be like 8 to 9 hours from Toddington, England to Edinburgh, Scotland.

Now, you could more or less estimate the travel time from Weggis, Switzerland to Edinburgh, Scotland.

As I was saying in my last entry, it was a little bit dark when we arrived in Edinburgh, but after just a few minutes, the sun was shining again.

Scottish Borders Tourist Route to Edinburgh

As I was saying in my last blog entry, we followed the Scottish Borders Tourist Route via A7 to Edinburgh and the Lothians. That was the nicest thing about having a road trip with our own car. We were able to see the beautiful sceneries of the place on our way to our next destination. We we were able to stop anytime we liked and just enjoyed the ride without really minding the time.

So, let me show you some pictures of the beautiful rolling hills and valleys of the Scottish Borders Tourist Route via A7 on the way to Edinburgh and the Lothians. Let me show you too some pictures of a few of the towns where we passed. Imagine yourself being inside the car, unaware of all what’s happening in you surroundings. Just enjoy the calm panoramic views of the Scottish Borders and the Lothians despite the occasional heavy rain.

Yes, that is right, it rained heavily on certain areas so I was not really able to get a lot of photos. It was not easy taking photos with all the rain pouring on the windshield of the car.

Scotland Golf Vacation in Summer 2008

It was early in the morning on July 07, 2008 when we left Weggis, Switzerland for a summer golf vacation in Scotland via Calais, France to Dover, England. From Dover, we decided to continue our travel the farther we can as long as it was not yet dark. We knew that we will not be able to proceed to Scotland then, so we made a decision to stay overnight past London area. At past 10:00pm, we eventually stopped in Toddington M1 Southbound and stayed at the Travelodge Hotel.

The next day at around 7:25am, we continued our road trip passing by Penrith and Carlisle, England. We were not really enthusiastic to go through the highway to Glasgow and then Edinburgh, and so, when we saw the signboard indicating the Tourist Route to Edinburgh A7, we just followed the direction up to Edinburgh. It was indeed a good decision as the landscape of this part of Scotland is really beautiful. We arrived in Edinburgh just before 4:00pm.
