Raclette in Summer
We’re again leaving for Obergesteln tomorrow to play golf at Golf Source du Rhône. One thing nice about going to Obergesteln as it’s quite hot here right now, it’s not as hot as the other places in Valais. There’s at least a difference of 5 degrees centigrade. So, it’s actually milder there if you compare it to Weggis and other places here in Switzerland.

Although it’s summer and it’s hot, eating raclette in Obergesteln is quite normal. For others, it’s crazy to eat raclette in summer but not for people in Valais. Well, if you do it inside your own house, then it’s really going to be hot, that’s why we don’t even do it at home.
Raclette is a melted cheese. You eat raclette with potatoes, pickles, mini sausages, among others. If you eat raclette in a restaurant in Valais, of course they will serve it to you. It’s not like fondue, be it swiss fondue or fondue chinoise, where you have to do the “cooking” in front of you while you are eating. If you eat raclette at home, then you do it like fondue, put the so-called small oven on the table and using some special instruments, put the cheese at the oven and wait for the cheese to melt.
I still remember, even my mother and sister liked raclette too. When we were still living at the old apartment, our good neighbors, H and E invited us for a raclette in their place. That was the first time my mother and my sister ate raclette. The last time I ate raclette was last Friday, July 21, 2006. It was really great. Yes, you guess it right, raclette is another one of my favorites here in Switzerland with regards to food.
I especially invited Hub for a raclette because he was also craving for raclette like me. Why did I invite Hub? I invited him because we used the gift certificate that I won in one of our club tournaments last year. I won a gift certificate worth 60 Swiss Francs for any purchase at the PRO Shop or use it at the restaurant of Golf Source du Rhône. We ate raclette for free!

I just would like to mention, somehow, Hub and I already gained something from playing golf. On that Friday too, we dropped by Fiesch first and went to the Volken Sport Mode Berg and Ski shop as I also won in another tournament, being nearest to the pin, a gift certificate worth 100 Swiss Francs. I ended up buying 2 pairs of shoes.
