On the road, up in the alps

Friday, September 15, 2006 @ 11:50 pm by Sofie Hofmann

Hub and I would always travel for at least 1 hour and 45 minutes on a Saturday going to Obergesteln to play golf. Either we go through the Furka Tunnel by taking the train, with our car of course, or go up to Furka Pass and enjoy the panoramic view of the alps.

On August 26, 2006, the weather was great up in the alps especially at the canton of Uri side of Furka Pass. Those two photos above were taken on that day. To our surprise, it was quite gloomy at the canton of Valais side of Furka Pass. See the photos below, also taken on the same day.

We saw the light at the end of the road! As if we were looking at the light through a narrow window.

That’s one thing about the weather, you’ll always never know despite the weather forecast. :)

    Hello Sofie!
The second shot reminds me of the foot going up Gross Glockner in Austria…beautiful site.
How I wish Holland’s got mountains too :)

  2. Hi Thess! It’s really nice up there regardless of the weather. I even quite remember that on September 17 last year, because it was quite foggy and cloudy then, I was able to touch some clouds while inside the car. I really touched the clouds, not the fog. It was fantastic.

:) Have a nice week!

Hindi ba mahirap huminga, Sofie? Ano’ng altitude when you touched the clouds? send me some clouds? ha ha

Furka Pass is about 2,436 meters above sea level, so if it’s summer, no problem at all, kung mainit talaga, kahit naka-tshirt at shorts lang, puwede na minsan.

Wow, nice shot. Visiting the Alps remains one of my life’s dreams. :)

How cold was it? Or what’s your elevation?

  6. Hi Jhay! Thanks for droppbing by.

Well, during summer, it’s not really that cold up in the alps, 18-20 degrees C is reasonable enough. It could even get a little bit warmer. It really depends on the weather and of course the season. During winter, Furka Pass is always closed just like the other similar passes in Switzerland. No cars can go up there but a lot of people go up to ski.

Keep on dreaming! For sure, it will come true, someday.

Hangganda ng mga shots mo manay! btw, natatanaw ang alps dito (with telescope syemper, lol)sa amin lalo na from Dachau Schloss (Palace) , nasa hill side kasi kaya mataas:)

Have a nice weekend dearie! regards to you & your hubby! Ingats

Have a nice weekend too! Regards to your hubby and kids! :)
