Scotland Lochs: Loch Ness, Loch Lochy, Loch Linnhe, Loch Creran

When we left Inverness, we drove along Loch Ness, Loch Lochy, Loch Linnhe, Loch Creran, and Firth of Lorn going to Oban.

Loch Ness is the second largest loch in Scotland in surface area of about 56.4 square kilometers or 21.8 square miles, Loch Lomond being the largest with surface area of about 71 square kilometers or 27 square miles.

Loch Ness is well known for the alleged sightings of the Loch Ness monster known as “Nessie”.

Inverness, the Mouth of the River Ness in Scotland

We left St. Andrews and went to Inverness. It took us at least 6 hours and 30 minutes to travel from St. Andrews to Inverness instead of the normal travel time of 3 hours because we followed the Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail.

We stayed at the Waterside hotel along the Ness Bank as it had a nice view of the River Ness.

After we checked in at the hotel, we had our dinner at the Conservatory restaurant of The Waterside hotel Inverness. After dinner, we went a little bit for a night walk around the city.

The next day, we left the hotel and played golf at the Inverness Golf Club.

After we played golf, we left Inverness and went to Oban, Argyll, Scotland.

The 91st PGA Championship is being shown at TNT, Golf Channel, and other channels in the United States, United Kingdom and Ireland. But you are residing in Europe outside United Kingdom. I added another channel below which is TNT. The other channel above is Golf Channel. A note though, every time you read this text, “We’ve reached the maximum number of streams for your country”, just refresh the page. It’s a little bit annoying but at least you will be able to watch the live coverage. You just have to refresh the page all the time, every time the message appears.

Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail

It has been quite some time since I wrote about our vacation in Scotland in July 2008.

When we left St. Andrews, the Home of Golf, we went to Inverness via Cupar, Perth, A9 and A95 highways, then Glenlivet, Aberlour, Craigellachie, Rothes, Elgin, Forres, and Nairn following the Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail.

Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail is in the Speyside region properly known as Strathspey by the River Spey.

There are several whisky distilleries in Speyside but only 8 distilleries and a Speyside cooperage form the Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail. Among the 8 distilleries that form the Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail, we only went to The Glenlivet Distillery and Glen Moray Distillery.

We also went to Cragganmore Distillery which is not part of the Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail but is located on the official Scotland’s Malt Whisky Trail.
